The 37th San Francisco Jewish Film Festival is thrilled to announce that the new documentary Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story will be its 2017 Castro Closing Night Film. SFJFF37 is honored to present this year’s Freedom of Expression Award to Joe Berlinger, Jewish-American filmmaker and fervent believer in the documentary form as an instrument of change. Joe Berlinger will appear in person to accept the award followed by a screening of his new and most challenging work, Intent to Destroy, about the historical legacy of the Armenian Genocide.

The Jewish Film Institute will co-present the new documentary film Company Town at the 39th Mill Valley Film Festival, October 6-16. The new documentary about high tech, political hustle, gentrification, and the future of cities is directed by Deborah Kaufman, who founded the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival in 1980, and Alan Snitow.
