NextWave Program Description
The Next Wave program offers enhanced engagement opportunities through Jewish content film and media for Next Wave audiences, defined as 18-35 year-olds from diverse cultural communities in the Bay Area. The programming will include a four film/event series in alternative venues and include augmented programming and social engagement opportunities such as music, comedy, food, and conversation. The program content will focus on the issues that have been identified as topical for young adults in the Bay Area which could include feminism and the #metoo movement, anti-Semitism, Intersectionality, Holocaust education, as well as social justice topics including issues of race and identity. Through innovative marketing and engagement campaigns, our live and online offerings will appeal to a diverse cohort of Jewish adults and their peers in their 20s and 30s to learn more about Jewish identity, history and experience in contemporary culture. The film and media will catalyze thoughtful dialogue and opportunities to socialize. We expect to reach 3,000-5,000 people.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Next Wave Programmer is a two-year grant funded part-time contract position that is responsible for implementing our NextWave program geared towards young adults (18-35) and building on past successes. The NextWave Programmer will initiate and work in coordination with the Programming Department to develop the programs. The NextWave Programmer will coordinate with the Marketing and Communications Manager to develop and implement outreach for the events and increase the social media engagement of the community. The NextWave Programmer is a part-time position with a flexible schedule (average 10 hours/per week). Peak times will require more flexibility and potentially additional hours including evenings and weekends.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Develop an overall plan for the program series, consisting of four public programs each year including at least one program at SFJFF40 in coordination with Programming.
● Identify and secure films and guests for the programs.
● Develop and execute augmented programming including food, music, comedy, dance, in a way that enhances and engages the audience at each event.
● Coordinate with Operations to secure venues and manage logistics for each program.
● Coordinate with Marketing to develop and implement outreach and marketing campaigns for programs and enhance social media presence targeting the Next Wave demographic.
● Engage with board members who are in the demographic to solicit their ideas, contacts, and work with them to develop outreach plans.
● Develop methods of evaluation that meet requirements of grant funding.
● Participate in writing the grant report at the end of each year of programming.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE and ATTRIBUTES:
● Experience curating film programs, securing films and guests.
● Experience planning, executing, and marketing events for young adult populations.
● Knowledge of what is important and engaging to Jewish young adults and young people interested in film and media.
● Familiarity with the Jewish young adult landscape in the Bay Area.
● Knowledge of social media and how to use it to engage a community.
● Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team.
