Principled Aharon immediately butts heads with the port strongman, Azulay, a respected but unscrupulous local who defends the surly and lazy tugboat crew. As the battle escalates, it threatens Aharon’s safety and loved ones, and he must weigh the importance of his standards against questions of loyalty, love, and family.

About This Film
Hot House
Nearly 10,000 Palestinians are incarcerated in Israel today. Most Israelis regard these “security prisoners” as criminals but to the Palestinians they are freedom fighters, and martyrs. Granted extraordinary access to the highest-security institutions, filmmaker Shimon Dotan uncovers a startling truth: Israeli prisons have become a breeding ground for the next generation of Palestinian leaders and a hotbed for terrorist plots. —David Courier.
Hot Sugar's Cold World
Using a sound recorder he never leaves home without, modern-day Mozart Nick Koenig (aka Hot Sugar) creates one-of-a-kind music made entirely out of sounds from the world around him. Director Adam Bhala Lough (Bomb the System) masterfully uses Hot Sugar’s recorded sounds in his own sound design for the film to fully orchestrate the cold world heard through Hot Sugar’s ears.
Hotel Berlin
This “grand hotel” ensemble drama brilliantly treats the end of Nazism in swanky surroundings. While bombs fall, high members of the Reich rush through the hotel plotting to "prepare better for the next war." Peter Lorre and Raymond Massey are memorable as Germans with treasonous secrets. Co-screenwriter Alvah Bessie dared to depict fascism as likely to survive the war--the kind of thinking that would later find him and others blacklisted.

About This Film
Hungry Hearts
This don’t-miss event combines a classic Lower East Side silent melodrama with a brand new commissioned score performed live on the Castro stage by the Moab Strangers. Composer Ethan Miller (Howlin Rain, Comets on Fire) and a slew of talented Bay Area psychedelic and folk heroes provide an inspired, cutting-edge soundtrack to the 1922 restored silent Hungry Hearts. The film is adapted from the short stories of Anzia Yezierska, a Jewish writer whose rags-to-riches tales of immigrant hardship led to her nickname, the Sweatshop Cinderella. Produced by Samuel Goldwyn and shot on location in New York, Hungry Hearts is a vividly drawn portrait of a struggling Jewish family, at once tragic and richly comic.

I Am Von Höfler Variation on Werther

Von Höfler, a bon vivant, chemist, piano-playing dilettante and cad, was spectator to a history that included the German invasion of Hungary, the Holocaust and the rise and fall of Communism.
