About This Film
Yes
Regarded as one of the sharpest cultural critics of Israeli society, filmmaker Nadav Lapid returns with a blistering new drama about Y., a struggling musician tasked with writing a new national anthem following October 7th.
The Yes Men Fix the World
Exposing corporate greed and environmental degradation is serious business—but that doesn’t mean you can’t be hilarious going about it. Meet the Yes Men—eco-prankster/activists Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno—who pose as mild-mannered corporate executives, then brazenly infiltrate major media outlets and shareholder meetings, skewering their targets with spectacularly satirical stunts. In this “screwball comedy for the apocalypse,” the guys take on the likes of Dow Chemical, Halliburton and post-Katrina profiteers.

Yiddish Soul
It takes a global village to preserve the musical traditions of Jewish shtetl life. This two-part concert film and documentary showcases the fans, scholars and stars of Europe’s new Yiddish and klezmer music revival, a diverse and intergenerational assortment of music lovers. Hailing from points throughout the continent, these gifted musicians share a passion for the world of Yiddish storytelling and song rescued from the brink of extinction
Yiddish Theater: A Love Story
Before World War II, there were 12 Yiddish theaters in New York City. Now there is only one, the Folksbiene Yiddish Theatre. Dan Katzir has created a poignant, tightly structured portrait of Zypora Spaisman, founder and grand dame of Folksbiene, who died in 2002. A natural-born storyteller, Katzir fills in the details of Spaisman’s life with telling anecdotes and interviews from the world of Yiddish theater.

YidLife Crisis: Breaking the Fast
Assembling at Montreal’s holy temple of poutine (fries, cheese and gravy), La Banquise, on the Jewish calendar’s holiest day of the year, Yom Kippur, Chaimie and Leizer argue about the meaning of the ritual of fasting while ritually eating. They are best friends and debating adversaries who tackle life, love and lactose intolerance in this foodie-centric web series done entirely in their grandparents’ Yiddish.

Yoo-hoo, Mrs. Goldberg
She’s the most famous woman in America you’ve never heard of. The story of television pioneer Gertrude Berg is told with humor and insight in Aviva Kempner’s sparkling film biography. Creator and star of the early TV hit The Goldbergs, Berg combined comedy and social commentary, introduced endearing Jewish characters to middle America and took on the McCarthy blacklist. Yoo-Hoo combines rare clips with celebrity interviews to create a star-studded social history of an American trailblazer. Followed by panel at the Castro.

About This Film
You Only Die Twice
Surprisingly, the film director's mother became the heiress of a cottage in posh North London. She had only to prove that she is the daughter of Ernst Bechinsky. But then came an astonishing discovery: another death certificate was discovered in Austria, revealing a man with the same name and I.D., born on the same date and in the same place as Ernst Bechinsky. A suspenseful thriller exposes a man, who lived with an S.S. family and became president of a Jewish Community through deception, leading to an extremely charged meeting between descendants of Jews and Nazis.
You Won't Miss Me
Loner, rebel, flirt, enemy, lover, that’s Shelly Brown, a 23-year-old alienated urban misfit recently released from a psychiatric hospital. Winner of the 2009 Gotham Award for Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You, director Ry Russo-Young and actress Stella Schnabel present a fractured character study of a contemporary young Jewish woman at odds with the world and herself.

About This Film
The Young Karl Marx
Director Raoul Peck’s (I Am Not Your Negro) finely crafted period drama vividly brings to life the August, 1844 meeting between Karl Marx, a German philosopher and journalist exiled to Paris, and Friedrich Engels, the rebellious son of a wealthy factory owner. After Marx lobs a few barbs at the dandified Engels, a revolutionary bromance is born. Within a few years Marx and Engels founded the Communist League and created its defining document, the Communist Manifesto.
Your Honor
It’s no wonder this thriller has been optioned for an American remake; this television series is reminiscent of HBO’S The Night After in its gripping portrayal of upstanding citizens ensnared in Israeli’s underworld. A judge’s son is involved in a hit-and-run accident unwittingly killing the son of a notorious crime family. As the plot unfolds, the title, Your Honor, takes on a double meaning, as the judge discovers how far he’ll go to shield his son.
