Zemene
This moving and inspiring documentary recounts the brave struggle of Zemene Tiget, a young Ethiopian girl with a life-threatening spinal condition and the Jewish doctor who makes it his personal challenge to keep her alive. As Zemene begins to heal, she takes a journey to New York to tell her hopeful story then makes a pilgrimage back to the isolated village that had once shunned her.
Zement
The concentration camp of Ebensee was one of the most important subcamps of Mauthausen. The living conditions for prisoners were extreme and the very high death rate led to the construction of a crematorium. After the liberation of the concentration camp, numerous housing units were built in the same area previously occupied by the camp , soon resold at very low prices. This attempt at cancellation continues to generate alarming episodes and disquieting questions.
Zero Degrees of Separation
Ezra and Selim are gay lovers caught within the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Edit and Samira, a lesbian couple, are also negotiating the intricate dance of relationships between Jews and Palestinians. These couples cross cultural boundaries with dignity and profound love. Elle Flanders weaves their stories with her family’s 1950s sun-drenched home movies of Israel and quiet observations of the conflict today, creating a unique feeling of dissonance.
Zero Motivation
However tough the green-uniformed, female Israeli Defense Forces soldiers in Tayla Lavie’s Tribeca award-winning first feature may act, they constantly give themselves away as quite the opposite. Zero Motivation is not punctuated by bullets, but rather by battles over chores, bunk beds and boys. Yet while tenderness may be hard to come by in this acerbic yet humorous film, Lavie nevertheless leaves room to convey her hardboiled characters’ dreams and desires.
The Zigzag Kid
Thirteen-year-old Nono is sent on a secret mission by his police inspector father in this winning drama about following one’s best hunches, based on David Grossman’s novel.
Zina
About This Film
Zion and His Brother
Eran Merav’s knockout first feature offers a fresh, razor-sharp perspective on the fraught relationship between brothers. Fourteen-year-old Zion and his older brother Meir are thick as thieves—that is, when they’re not fighting. When rough play leads to a tragic accident, the brothers react differently and are challenged by thorny questions of loyalty and morality. The stellar cast features Ronit Elkabetz as their mother and Tzahi Grad as her newest love interest.
The Zionist Idea
This startlingly fresh examination of the history of Israel viewed through the evolution of its ideological and philosophical foundation was written and directed by noted documentarians Joseph Dorman and Oren Rudavsky. The film states from the outset that it seeks to tell “the story of Zionism as seen through the inhabitants of the land,” meaning all the inhabitants of the land, both Jewish and Arab, Israeli and Palestinian.

About This Film
Zrubavel
Gite Zrubavel, a dignified man employed as a street sweeper in his Ethiopian immigrant enclave in Israel, works to see his children succeed beyond him. But son Gili’s flirtation with crime and daughter Almaz’s taboo romance threaten to undermine his efforts. Even grandson Yitzhak defies expectations, styling himself the “Spike Lee” of his neighborhood. This spirited debut casts an authentically fresh angle on the divide between tradition-minded fathers and their rapidly assimilating children.
Zusha
When three ultra-Orthodox millennials started a folk band in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, they had no intention of making it their lives.
