Set in contemporary Paris, THE SANDWICH YEARS takes place primarily in a flashback to 1947 when Victor, a young Jewish orphan, is befriended by Max, a crusty old Jewish scrap metal dealer. Left to his own devices after the war, Victor is able to construct a new life by developing a close father-son relationship with Max, and by sharing a series of comic adventures with an upper class gentile friend. This exceptionally moving drama has much to say about prejudice and bigotry, the redemptive power of love, and even answers the question, What is a Jew? With a brilliant performance by Wojek Pszoniak (DANTON, KORCZAK) as Max.
