Zlateh the Goat

This dramatization of I.B. Singer's bittersweet children's tale was made entirely on location in rural Czechoslovakia. With a harsh winter coming and no money, a Jewish tailor sends his son to the village to sell his beloved goat for slaughter. Boy and goat are overtaken by a snowstorm on the way, but when the goat miraculously saves the boy's life, its own life is spared as well.
