My Daughter, My Love

Doting father and haberdasher Shimon (a terrific Sasson Gabai, Karaoke, SFJFF 2022) comes to Paris to visit his ailing and dear friend Nissim. He stays with his daughter, Alma, who lives in the city with her infant son and husband Dori. Sharing their space and observing their home life begins to worry Shimon, since Dori is absent for entire nights and Alma’s emotions mount in intensity. As Shimon tepidly starts to investigate what is causing the fractures in his daughter’s marriage, he draws some surprising conclusions. He enlists Nissim’s help to try to salvage Alma’s family, and fatherly interventions ensue that are in turn funny, tender, ineffective, and deeply meaningful. This film is located in a familial truth that is resonant, relatable, and reflective. A testament to how much we have in common across generations, geographies, and life experiences and to how we connect more in our imperfections than in the opposite, My Daughter, My Love is life and love affirming. — Ash Hoyle
