The Glory of Life

It’s 1923 and while Franz Kafka doesn’t know it yet, it’s nearly his last year on earth. His struggle with tuberculosis has led him to a convalescent care facility on the Baltic Coast and serendipitously to Dora Diamant. A worldly and wise writer, she is working in a Jewish community nearby when their paths cross. After exchanging notes and sweet rendezvous on the beach, their great love story takes off. Together they go to Berlin and, when Franz’s health deteriorates rapidly, to a sanatorium in Austria. Dora accepts him as he is and he accepts her. Through of the power of love, the last year of Franz Kafka’s life becomes his happiest.

Shot with a delicate touch, Franz and Dora’s affection for each other envelops the viewer with a sense of loving warmth. The Glory of Life captures not just the inner life of a literary legend, but a fragile, exquisite love story for the ages. — Dominique Oneil
