Set at the turn of the century, HESTER STREET is a drama about a Russian Jew who makes his way to New York ahead of his wife. He finds the city's bustling and clamorous immigrant community of the Lower East Side much to his liking. He quickly assimilates and, in the process, becomes infatuated with another more modern woman. His wife finally arrives, steeped in the manners and customs of the old country. She finds within herself strength and a new liberation. How the problems of the couple are resolved makes for a humorous and authentic story.
