First Lesson in Peace

As a parent, it’s hard to reconcile your politics with your choices for a child’s education. American parents often face the conundrum of public versus private school. But the issues faced by director Yoram Honig and his wife stem from living by their ideals and sending their children to the Neve Shalom/Wahat al Salam School for Peace, a bilingual Arabic/Hebrew school for Jewish and Palestinian kids. It’s precocious Michal’s first day of school; despite their concerns, her parents are steadfast in their commitment to Arab and Jewish children learning together. This heartfelt, hopeful documentary is a personal letter from a father to his six-year-old daughter.
