Jaime Gerson (from Latino Jews: Journey to the Americas, part 1)

Mexican Jewish painter Jaime Gerson talks about his family's experience of immigration. He speaks of the strength he draws from the duality of Mexican Jewish culture.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1960, Carlos de Martini is the series producer for LA PLAZA, WGBH Boston's weekly Latino program. He moved to Boston in 1978 and now is a resident of Chelsea, Massachusetts. He joined LA PLAZA in 1989, after having taught Spanish literature and history at Dorchester High School, where he introduced students to video production in an after-school program. He has been the series producer of LA PLAZA since 1994. The series reflects de Martini's interest in issues that affect Latino youth and in reaching across cultural differences to present all aspects of the Latino experience in Boston. At LA PLAZA, he has been responsible for the conception and production of many award-winning documentaries, such as: Latino Jews II (UNESCO Award nominee, 1997), From Here and There (Best Target Audiences Series Emmy Award, 1997), The Making of Don Gato (Golden Eagle Award, 1996), Champs: The Strength of Survival (Golden Eagle Award, 1995). Carlos de Martini is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts/Boston. His photo and video art has been exhibited at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston as part of an exhibit on community artists around the world.
