Loving the Dead

The odyssey of British filmmaker Mira Hamermesh (TALKING TO THE ENEMY) as she returns to Poland to search for her mother's grave. She envisions ghosts in cafes and on streets in the former Jewish ghetto of Lodz, and in the places where her parents died. With striking dream sequences, LOVING THE DEAD becomes a moving first person account of the traces left by Jews which continue to haunt the living. Hamermesh's personal search is mirrored in the efforts of some Poles to recognize the contributions of Jews in Poland before the War. These compelling people, particularly a striking young woman and an exceptionally mature teenage boy who are both half-Jewish, feel that in loving the dead they are able to heal the wounds of loss.
