Molly's Pilgrim

Molly, an extraordinarily adorable nine-year-old Russian Jewish girl, is a new immigrant to America. Her classmates laugh at her mannerisms and ostracize her because she is different. Things go from bad to worse when her teacher asks the class to make puppets based on Thanksgiving characters. Her mother helps her make a different kind of Pilgrim, a little Russian girl who came to America, and Molly teaches her friends the meaning of religious freedom in this charming tearjerker. Best Live Action Short Film, 1986 Academy Awards. [See also "Children's Films."]
