Out for Love, Be Back Shortly

Dan, a handsome filmmaker just out of the army, knows he should be thinking about his next career move. Instead, he spends his time looking for love and avidly video-recording his pursuit. Soon enough, he meets the lovely Iris, who is about to begin her military service. As their love story unfolds, Katzir documents rare footage of historic events. Iris is in the same military class as Noa Ben Artzi, Prime Minister Rabin's granddaughter. Through the prism of his own experience, including the joys and strain of a young relationship, Katzir documents the intense years during which Prime Minister Rabin tries to move the region from war to peace. The sequences dealing with the prime minister's assassination and its aftermath are extremely moving. This first film, made by a 23-year-old Israeli, expresses the outcry of a generation as it struggles to find love and privacy amid a reality of fear and hatred. 1997 Wolgin Award Jerusalem International Film Festival.
