The Silence of the Poet

This German film, shot in Israel, focuses on a poet who gives up writing ostensibly to care for his retarded son, a kind of poem that went wrong. As the son grows up, their symbiotic relationship is reversed; it is the son who cares for his father, conniving in often bizarre and humorous ways to get him to write again. A moody, atmospheric film and a compelling adaptation of the book by Israeli writer A.B. Yehoshua.
