Filmmaker Bio(s)
I am a real valley girl, born and raised in the Van Nuys area of LA. When I was in high school (Birmingham High in the San Fernando Valley, also school to infamous characters Michael Milken and Mike Ovitz) I wanted to be a documentary filmmaker, especially after seeing "Harlan County, USA".
Alas, that was not my destiny! Financial circumstances forced me to get a real job, and I worked as a theater projectionist (pretty low in the food-chain of filmmaking).
Fast forward to many years later...after attending a Jewish singles event where a Yiddish singer entertained, a fellow sufferer/guest/attendee (those singles things can be such a drag) suggested that the entertainment would be enhanced if we actually knew some Yiddish, and to further that concept, the idea of Yiddish Karaoke was born!
After some research (mainly to find out why this great idea was not already on the market) I put together a band, recorded some tracks, traveled to Central Europe to gather up most of the visuals, and put this project together.
Current projects? Possibly a sequel,
or I'd love to do something kid-oriented.
There is a Yiddish Karaoke videotape for sale! It has six songs, Oyfn Pripechik, Belz, Sheyn vi di Levonne, Di Grine Kuzine, Yosl, Yosl, etc. Call (800) 705-1422 for check or credit card order or e-mail me: jkpprod@aol.com
