Olive Press

Every year the olives ripen on trees in the beautiful hills and valleys of the West Bank, turning from bitter green to luscious purple. As autumn unfolds, the owners of the trees--Israelis and Palestinians--partake in the age-old ritual of the olive harvest. This riveting and sun-drenched documentary follows three characters whose lives are inextricably intertwined with the roots of the olive trees. Jamila, a Mizrahi Jew, volunteers her time to help the Palestinian olive harvesters. Ronit, a settler, dedicates her life to nurturing her disabled husband and his dream of Jewish expansion of biblical lands. And Taufik Salim, a Palestinian man, recounts how he cried when bulldozers dug up his family’s olive trees.
