Full Description
Uri Barbash's tense political drama takes place at an Israeli army base where a military police investigator, Rafa, comes to investigate the suspicious death of a Palestinian during interrogation. The official report states that death occurred while the suspect attempted to escape. But Rafa quickly discovers a cover-up and must decide whether to betray his army comrades by telling the truth, or betray his conscience by joining the cover-up. Alon Aboutboul (Israel's Richard Gere) is smoldering as Yotam, Rafa's close friend and the chief suspect, who is barely able to conceal his guilt. A completely convincing and relevant film: as the Israeli Supreme Court struggles to find appropriate punishment for soldiers accused of brutality, we see the divisiveness surrounding these issues mirrored in the film's credits. One government agency, The Fund for Quality Films, takes credit for funding the film, while another agency, The Israel Defense Forces, tacked a statement onto the end of the film denying that the film resembles reality.
