Persian Story

Persia is both a place of prosperity and oppression for the Jews. It is where the Babylonian Talmud was written, and it produced the great poet Shahin in the 13th century. But Persia is also where Jews were deemed "dirty" and "impure." We learn much through the stories of Persian Jews now living in Israel: the celebrated musicians Ehud Banai and Rita, the wealthy industrialists who fled Iran when the Ayatollah Khomeini took power, and a young generation reclaiming its Persian roots.
