Republic of Dreams

Caesar and Arnold meet in London to make a film together about the remarkable Jewish writer Bruno Schulz, known as the Kafka of Poland, who was assassinated by the Gestapo in 1942. Caesar is a hip journalist obsessed with details, Arnold is a moody puppet animator and computer graphics artist. The two friends both identify with Schulz's apocalyptic visions and the rich fantasy world created in his short story "Republic of Dreams." But it is Arnold who is drawn deeper into Schulz's sensual, mysterious labyrinth of ideas. Finally, on a trip with Caesar to Schulz's hometown of Drohobycz, Poland, Arnold has an unforgettable encounter with Schulz. A visually stunning drama that remains true to Schulz's haunting work.
