Snow Day

A snowy round-trip journey from Manhattan to Boro Park Brooklyn, on the B train, evokes family memories and history. This homage to the filmmaker's grandmother was shot in moody super-8mm black & white.
Madeline Schwartzman is a New York filmmaker and architect who has been making films since 1990. Prior to completing PURIM, Schwartzman wrote, produced and directed APHRODISIAC which marks her feature debut. Her previous short works have screened at festivals both in the US and abroad. Schwartzman earned a Masters degree from the Yale School of Architecture in 1986 and teaches architectural design at Columbia University and at Parsons School of Design. She has received grants in various disciplines, including a residency in architecture at the American Academy in Rome (1988), an Artist's Grant in Sculpture from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts (1989), a Film Production grant from the New School for Social Research (1993), and a sabbatical from Parsons (1997) for the post-production of APHRODISIAC.
