Under the World (Debajo del Mundo)

A moving drama based on the true story of one family's survival in wartime Poland. Eight members of the Nachman family must go into hiding in 1942 or risk deportation to a death camp. They live in a trench under a barn and later with another group of Jews hiding in the forest. They wander through the snow and, finally, after a series of violent incidents and small miracles, are liberated by the Russians. This is one of the strongest films on the meaning of survival. With exceptionally fine performances, beautiful cinematography and a documentary postscript in which we meet one surviving member of the family in his Buenos Aires home. Stagnaro and Feijoo's credits include the screenplays for CAMILA and MISS MARY.
