Full Description
Finally on screen: the life of Israeli pop music legend Zohar Argov, who broke through to superstardom with his Mediterranean-style music. This is the story of his rise and fall: from humble beginnings, to unprecedented popularity, to tragic death. It is the familiar and classic myth of an idol loved by hundreds of thousands of fans, whose life crumbles into a drug-addicted nightmare. The film is set in the 1980s, against the political backdrop of racial tension among eastern and western Jews in Israel. Argov's success in those years legitimized the production and marketing of "eastern" music, and Argov himself remains a symbol of the preservation of ethnic identity and pride. One of the most popular films in Israel in 1993.
