The old adage “truth is stranger (and more fascinating) than fiction” certainly applies to this year’s collection of not-so-short shorts, three documentary portraits of three unique women: a fiery wise-cracking 100-year-old Polish immigrant, who happens to be the cousin of rocker Lou Reed; an imaginative painter and Holocaust survivor from Hungary; and the inspirational globetrotting nurse who was a featured character in a beloved children’s book in Poland.
