Born Kicking
Queer photographer Jill Posener’s fearless compulsion to document provides us with intimate views of radical feminist London, Bay Area 90s lesbian culture, and contemporary unhoused East Bay communities. A lifelong rebel, she has always felt “at odds”, and now contemplates where she may fit for her final chapter.
A Bottle in the Gaza Sea
This modern-day Romeo-and-Juliet tale is set in Israel and Gaza. After witnessing a suicide bombing, a girl writes a letter to Gaza seeking understanding and sends it into the Gaza Sea in a bottle. It’s found by a young Gaza man who emails back. Though they live less than 100 kilometers apart, they communicate only through emails and letters. While they often disagree, their relationship deepens as the political situation worsens. [MINIGUIDE 71/70]
Bounded
A 3D-animated journey through Kibbutz Gevim reveals an unexpected encounter among those who stayed behind after the events of October 7.
The Boxer and Death
About This Film
The Boy Downstairs
Zosia Mamet of GIRLS fame stars in this twentysomething romantic comedy that borrows the aesthetic and location of the popular HBO show. Mamet plays Diana, an aspiring writer who moves back to New York City after living in London. Three years ago she left behind mensch and loving boyfriend Ben (Matthew Shear). Now she returns to discover that he lives in the apartment below hers. Things are about to get complicated.

Brighton Beach
About This Film
Bring Your Own Brigade
Raging, out-of-control wildfires have become part of the new normal around the globe, leaving heartbreaking devastation and death in their wake. In California, this harsh reality was underscored on November 8, 2018, when several parts of the state were ablaze—the Camp Fire destroying most of the Northern California town of Paradise and the Woolsey Fire roaring through Malibu in the south. In the aftermath, residents face unthinkable loss. As they struggle to rebuild, they debate what could be done to prevent further tragedy.
Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy
From Rodgers and Hammerstein to the Gershwins to Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim the roll call of composers who defined a particular American cultural genre known as musical theater might read like a synagogue board of directors list. A highly entertaining and compelling documentary about the Jewish composers who essentially invented a new American art form: the Broadway musical. Narrated by Joel Grey.
Broken
Set in the suburbs of Paris, Broken is a poignant tale of good intentions and dashed ambitions. Anna is an idealistic young Jewish teacher who comes to resent her students, children of immigrants from France’s former colonies. Lakdar, a student, aspires to be an artist and is crushed when his dream is lost due to a bungled medical procedure. When he attempts to exact revenge, tragic consequences ensue for all involved. [MINIGUIDE 71/70]
Broken Barriers (Khavah) with "Live" Film Score
Originally released as Khavah and later renamed Broken Barriers, this 1919 silent film is the first American screen adaptation of the work of Sholem Aleichem (Tevye, the Milkman). This special one-time-only online screening features a brand new commissioned score by renowned musician Sascha Jacobsen who, along with his fellow musicians, will perform live along with the film in this can’t miss one of a kind event.
Broken Bird
A Bat Mitzvah girl caught in the middle finds a way to enter adulthood.
Broken Lines
In this dark and erotic drama set in multicultural North London, Jake and B’s carnal affair provides a welcome escape from their troubled relationships, as despair gives way to freedom. Written by co-stars Fredenburgh and Rosa, and directed with eloquent precision by Sallie Aprahamian, Broken Lines shows sparks of hope and passion igniting even in suffering souls, as they navigate life and the surprises that come with it.
Broken Promise
A rare and superb entry from Slovakia into the genre of Holocaust drama, Broken Promise is based on the true story of teenager Martin Friedman’s unlikely escapes from deportation during the war. From work camp to Catholic infirmary to an underground stint with the Partisans, Martin manages to win deliverance through both chance and the aid of sympathizers. The film explores collective and individual anti-Semitism among invaders and liberators alike.

About This Film
Brundibar
Douglas Wolfsperger’s inspiring documentary Brundibár has a wonderfully novelistic texture. Youth educator Uta Plate brings actors for her Berlin production of this Czech children’s opera to Terezin together with Greta Klingsberg, who played the lead role in the Theresienstadt concentration camp as a 13-year-old, before being shipped to Auschwitz. The forthright and spirited Klingsberg, one of the few remaining original actors, inspires today’s cast members, themselves outsiders in German society.
Brussels Transit
About This Film
Bubbe & Tal
A stoner buddy-dramedy between a Jewish grandmother and her trans grandchild on a day trip to Cape Cod during the off-season.
Bubbeh Lee and Me
About This Film
The Bubble
Eytan Fox (Walk on Water, Yossi and Jagger) continues his extraordinary run of sleek, chic films that define the contradictions of modern Israeli life. A trio of charming gay and straight twenty-somethings share a flat in a hip Tel Aviv district. But the carefree “bubble” they live in threatens to burst when one of them falls in love with a young Palestinian man.
Budapest Noir
This classically styled hardboiled detective yarn explores how Hungary reacted to the rise of the Third Reich.
Budrus
When Palestinian Ayed Morrar learned the Israeli security barrier would veer from the border separating Israel and the Palestinian territories, and would instead cut through his West Bank village, he decided to organize, galvanizing both Palestinians and Israelis in an effective strategy of nonviolent protest. This groundbreaking documentary neither romanticizes nor demonizes the many viewpoints it reveals, instead capturing with raw intensity the power of ordinary people fighting peaceably for change.
Bugsy
Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel has a dream—or is it a mirage?—of a casino named the Flamingo rising out of the Nevada desert. What Siegel doesn’t gamble on are construction delays or falling in love, and he falls hard for actress Virginia Hill (played to perfection by Annette Bening). Warren Beatty’s tour de force performance as the sexy, psychotic New York gangster shines among excellent turns by Ben Kingsley and Harvey Keitel.
Bulldozer
An under-medicated, chronically impassioned young woman lurches from crisis to crisis—of her own making.
Bulletproof Stockings
Perl and Dalia make waves creating Bulletproof Stockings, the first all-female Hasidic rock band. They challenge gender norms as their global attention increases but their diverging visions and ideologies threaten the band's unity and future.
Bulletproof Stockings
IPerl and Dalia have come together to pursue their passion for music and form a band, Bulletproof Stockings. They also happen to be the first-ever Hasidic alternative-rock girl band.
The Burial Society
It's a bit unusual that Sheldon wants to join a Chevrah Kadisha (burial society), but the group decides to give him a chance. THE BURIAL SOCIETY is a quirky, well-woven murder mystery complete with Jewish Mafia thugs, devious detectives, and nervous breakdowns. Not the average backdrop for a seriocomic, caper movie, the Chevrah Kedisha imbues this offbeat Jewish noir with unique gravity.
