Director Tracy Droz Tragos expected to attend

“I’m not going to be stopped or hindered by the law one way or the other.” Cofounder and codirector, Francine Coeytaux (who was instrumental in lobbying for emergency contraceptive Plan B’s availability in pharmacies nationwide) established the nonprofit Plan C in 2015 as a resource for those seeking information on and access to RU486, a combination of the drugs Mifepristone and Misoprostol, most commonly known as the abortion pill. Alongside an extraordinary network of activists and medical professionals, many of whom choose to remain anonymous due to the ever present threat of lawful prosecution and violence, Award-winning documentarian Tracy Droz Targos (Abortion: Stories Women Tell, SFJFF 2016) creates an urgent portrait chronicling the organization’s work over the course of four years. From navigating the immediate need to expand capacity due to Covid to the landmark overturn of Roe v. Wade, Droz Targos provides an overview not only of the legislative and cultural roadblocks but the practical realities involved in spearheading a campaign of such enormity. Plan C is an unvarnished glimpse into an underground network, a testament to the grit of those on the frontlines fighting each day to ensure access to safe reproductive care regardless of the consequences.

Tracy Droz Tragos is an award-winning filmmaker. In 2021, Tracy was selected to be a Sundance Screenwriting and Directing Fellow, a Susan Nimoy Fellow, and a Lynn Auerbach Fellow for her forthcoming debut narrative feature film The Macrobiotic Toker. Tracy’s documentary Abortion: Stories Women Tell (SFJFF36) premiered at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival and was broadcast to wide acclaim on HBO. Tracy’s body of work has received support from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Cinereach, IDA, and ITVS. She is a Film Independent Documentary Lab and Sundance Documentary Lab alumna, participating as both a director and producer, and a past Sundance Women Filmmaking Fellow. She is the mother of two children

Gilda Gonzales has been the CEO of Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) since June 2017. She is the first Latina to serve as CEO of a California Planned Parenthood affiliate. She has a long history of public and community service, serving in leadership positions in Oakland City Hall, CEO of The Unity Council - a non-profit organization in central East Oakland, legislative staff in the California State Assembly and served as Board member of the Port of Oakland Commission and Alameda County’s First 5 Commission. Currently, she is a member of the national Planned Parenthood Federation of America Board.

Daniel Grossman is an obstetrician-gynecologist and researcher based at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he is the Director of Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH). His research includes both clinical and social science studies aimed at improving access to contraception and abortion. He has been an expert witness in several legal challenges to restrictive abortion laws, including Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt.
